Panel 1
Koinu is lying in bed on his stomach, his eyes closed and his arms wrapped around the pillow beneath his head.
Yoshi: Inuyasha?
Panel 2
Koinu looks apprehensively up from the pillow and over his shoulder and sighs.
Koinu: "Inuyasha." I'm in trouble.
Panel 3
Koinu sits up in bed. His arms, chin, and cheek are bandaged.
Koinu: …Hi, Dad.
Panel 4
Koinu's father, Yoshi, is sitting beside Koinu's bed. He looks grumpy and concerned.
Yoshi: Are you hurt?
Koinu: No, not really. Cut my arms and my chin and my shoulders. Wrecked my school jacket. Mom says I'm not to leave this room until we go back to Bern.
Panel 5
Koinu and his father are sitting closely together. Yoshi is looking at his son with concern.
Yoshi: I agree with your mother.
Koinu: Did you…see the door?
Yoshi: I saw it. You could have been badly hurt. You have stitches?
Koinu: In my chin and in my back. Did you get some good wine?
Panel 6
Close-up of Koinu, his Father's hand resting on the side of his neck.
Yoshi: Good enough. You're not wearing prayer beads.
Koinu: Uh…no. I took them off at the pool.
Panel 7
Close-up of Koinu and his father, looking concerned.
Yoshi: Inuyasha…
Koinu: I didn't mean to be irreverent, Dad. I was diving and they kept pulling off. I have a lot of respect for the great dog daemon.
Yoshi: Your cousins wear theirs swimming.
Koinu: I know. I'm…I'm sorry. I'm not trying to act like I'm better than they are. Really.
Panel 8
Close-up of Koinu, looking sad.
Koinu: Dad? I'm sorry I have such a…stupid imagination. I won't do it again. We have to pay for the door, don't we?
Panel 9a
Shot of the Concierge, talking to someone as yet unidentified. Yoshi's conversation is continued in voice-over.
Yoshi: No, the hotel said it's all taken care of.
Concierge: Yes, the boy's ok, sir. One of those freak things…hit the door just right. Good of you to pick up the tab…
Panel 9b
Close-up of Sesshoumaru, smiling at the Concierge.
Sesshoumaru: No problem. Just so everything with the boy is…under control.

Panel 1
Dateline: Tokyo, November 1998. A teenage Kagome is asleep in her bed. Her hair is spread across the pillow.
Panel 2
Kagome begins to stir, eyes opening.
Panel 3
Kagome rises, looking sleepily at her bedside. Her eyes are half open; she is obviously not yet awake.
Panel 4
A very startled and flustered Koinu pauses, one hand on the windowsill.
Koinu: It's okay! Don't scream or anything! I'm just going!
Panel 5
Kagome crosses her arms over her pajama top, and stares wide-eyed at Koinu, who is still sitting on the floor, arms halfway up to the windowsill.
Kagome: Inuyasha? What are you doing?
Koinu: Nothing! I mean…nothing bad. I was just watching you sleep…like—like I used to…
Panel 6
Close-up of Kagome and Koinu staring at each other.
Kagome: When did you used to watch me sleep?
Koinu: I don't know. All the time. I like watching you sleep. It's nice.
Panel 7
Close-up of Kagome, arms still crossed over her front.
Kagome: How…how did you get in here?
Panel 8
Close-up of Koinu and Kagome
Koinu: Through the window. How else would I get in?
Kagome:…There's a door.
Page 14
Panel 1
Close-up of Koinu, sitting cross-legged, holding his feet.
Koinu: But it's night time. I'm not going to go through the door in the middle of the night.
Panel 2
Close-up of Koinu and Kagome, both looking slightly flustered and embarrassed.
Kagome: This is the second floor! How did you get up here?
Koinu: There's a tree outside your window.
Kagome: Oh. You still climb trees? I thought that was—you know, because you were…part dog.
Panel 3
Close-up of Koinu, looking slightly amused.
Koinu: …Kagome, when was the last time you saw a dog climb a tree? I'm just a person who likes trees.
Panel 4
Close-up of Koinu and Kagome. Kagome looks shy, and Koinu is paying rapt attention.
Koinu: You still wear those pajama things.
Kagome: Um…yeah.
Koinu: You…you didn't used to…cover up like that…
Kagome: Yeah…I don't…we're sort of more…boy and girl now, aren't we…
Panel 5
Close-up of Koinu, looking embarrassed. There is a slight flush across his cheeks.
Koinu: Yeah. Yeah, I guess we are…sort of boy and girl now. Is it ok that I'm here? I was sitting leaning on my window, missing you, like I do sometimes…
Panel 6
Shot of Koinu leaning on his window, looking sadly out into the night.
Koinu (voiceover):…And then I realized…I've found you now…so maybe I could just…go look at you.
Panel 7
Close-up of Kagome, who is watching Koinu as he talks.
Koinu (voiceover): It always makes me feel better about things if I can see you're okay. So I went out my window and came here.
Kagome: You went out your window? What if your parents find out?
Panel 8
Close-up of Koinu, looking slightly worried.
Koinu: They hardly ever notice when I go out my window. And I always come back. What do you want for your birthday? I wrecked the last one by dying. I want this one to be good.
Panel 9
Close-up of Koinu and Kagome. Kagome is smiling slightly to herself.
Kagome: My birthday? I don't know…I guess…whatever you want to get. I mean, you don't have to…
Koinu: You have to give me a hint, because I'm famous for being bad at choosing presents.
Page 15
Panel 1
Close-up of Koinu, looking concerned.
Koinu: I was trying to think of something that would help you get better. Although you don't look as bad as you did. You're not so skinny anymore. And the circles under your eyes aren't as dark.
Panel 2
Close-up of Kagome, who is smiling openly now. Koinu is speaking as a voice-over.
Koinu: I thought I could get you a nice nightgown—something silky that would feel nice on the days you stay in bed, but you haven't spent that much time home in bed lately. You hardly ever pass out anymore.
Kagome: I think—a nightgown is…um…not appropriate for a boy to give a girl.
Panel 3
Close-up of Koinu, head back, with his eyes closed, talking.
Koinu: Yeah. I figured that out. When I told my mom what I wanted to get you, she yelled at me for an hour. And then when my father got home, I had to sit and listen to the Samurai Lecture.
Panel 4
Shot of Koinu and Kagome, sitting together. Kagome has her arms wrapped around her knees and is smiling at Koinu.
Kagome: "The Samurai Lecture…"?
Koinu: Yeah. Houjou have been samurai for, like, a thousand years. There were probably dinosaur samurai Houjou. And every time I screw up, my father explains to me how I'm letting all my ancestors down.
Panel 5
Shot from behind Kagome, looking at Koinu, who seems more relaxed now. He is smiling.
Kagome: Real samurai don't screw up?
Koinu: Nope…Well, my great-grandfather helped start World War Two…But Nothing Major Like Buying Girls Nightgowns.
Panel 6
Shot from behind Koinu, looking at Kagome. She is sitting with her knees pulled up to her chest, half-smiling.
Koinu: You have very nice feet. Is it all right if I get you slippers? You didn't like the sandals I got you. That was the first present I ever gave you.
Panel 7
Close-up shot of Koinu and Kagome's profiles as they smile at each other.
Kagome: The shiatsu sandals? I used to wear them last summer.
Koinu: You wore them? Really?
Panel 8
Close-up of Kagome, smiling yet sad-looking.
Kagome: Yeah, sometimes. You didn't see me because I never left the shrine last summer. Except to go to the cemetery.
Panel 9
Close-up of Koinu, smiling at Kagome.
Koinu: You wore my sandals. And you didn't even know who I was. That's nice. That's really cool.
Page 16
Panel 1
Close-up of Koinu, sitting cross-legged on the floor, smiling.
Koinu: Okay, slippers. Even my father couldn't find anything wrong with slippers, I'll bet. Even for a Samurai. Are you warm enough?
Panel 2
Shot of Kagome in her pajamas, sitting on her knees on the floor. Koinu speaks in a voiceover.
Kagome: I'm fine. Your father doesn't look like a samurai.
Koinu: Sure he does. That's what samurai look like nowadays. Dark suit, white shirt, nice tie.
Panel 3
Two-shot of Kagome and Koinu sitting on the floor by Kagome's bed.
Koinu: He was brought up in bushido. He was all-Japan in kendo. I'm lousy at bushido. They kicked me out of the kendo club.
Kagome: You got kicked out of kendo?
(footnote: Bushido = "the way of the samurai")
Panel 4
Close-up of Koinu, smiling and talking.
Koinu: Yeah. I kept hitting people with the sword. It's just—it was dumb! All that posturing and forms! Why bother hauling around a sword if you're not going to kill someone with it?
Panel 5
Close-up of Koinu and Kagome hugging.
Kagome: Sometimes you sound just like the Inuyasha I used to know.
Koinu: I am the Inuyasha you used to know. I've just lived longer. Anyway, I switched to baseball. I'm only right field, but I can hit.
Panel 6
Kagome and Koinu are snuggling and talking.
Koinu: The next time I have a run in with Sesshoumaru, I'll go after him with a baseball bat. Are we going to kiss now?
Kagome: I thought we were.
